International Boarding Students

"Everyone could just relate and talk to each other. … You felt heard, and cared for."

Ouelhore Diallo '22 Recipient of the President's International Admissions Scholarship, University of Western Ontario

Rosseau Lake College welcomes students from around the world.

Our small school environment ensures authentic, meaningful relationships and an inclusive, warm community. Embracing over 20 different nationalities within our community, we ignite the “it” within each student, challenging and empowering students to pursue their passions.

Our staff, faculty, houseparents, and boarding dons make sure every student feels welcome, cared for, and supported during their studies and beyond. In the classroom, we ensure that the curriculum reflects the perspectives of our students and is culturally responsive.

Many nations are represented in the various boarding houses, allowing students to build up a global network of contacts from across Canada and around the world. The boarding experience builds confidence, perspective, and life-long friendships. It grants the opportunity to become more self-reliant and self-aware, and to build confidence within a supportive community.

Rosseau Lake College’s balanced, supportive, and challenging co-curricular program allows students to develop life skills that will serve them well beyond their years in high school. They also allow a true Canadian experience, including trips to the north, to the nation's capital region, and everything in between. Being close to Toronto means that we're also close to the most important cultural institutions in the country, as well as many of the most desirable universities.

I really appreciate the chance that RLC offered me to have so many brothers and sisters around this planet. I love RLC and all the people in the community, more than I can explain.

– Oliver, Current Student

Custodianship

In order to study in Canada, international boarding students who are applying for an initial Canadian Study Permit or renewal, are required to provide a Notarized Custodianship Declaration as part of their Student Permit application. This original document must be provided by your guardian/representative and submitted with your VISA/study permit application. Rosseau Lake College requires that each international boarding student has an English speaking custodian, over the age of 21, residing in the Province of Ontario, while attending school. An international family may identify their own Canadian-based custodian for their child. A custodian could be a family member or close friend of the family. If a student does not have a custodian living in Canada they must be prepared to pay a fee to an outside agency. Please contact Jaclyn Macleod for more information on custodianship packages.

Visa and Study Permit

Once you have been accepted to Rosseau Lake College and enrolment has been confirmed, Admissions will issue a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) to facilitate the initial processing of your study visa.

You must apply for a visa. To apply, contact your nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate or go to cic.gc.ca for information. Once a Student Visa has been granted, you will receive a confirmation letter which is required when you arrive in Canada. Immigration Canada replaces the letter with a ‘Study Permit’ which is added to your passport. This permit must be renewed on a yearly basis.

The time to process a visa application and study permit varies greatly from country to country. Please visit the Government of Canada's website to find out the normal processing times for your country. If there are a number of applications to be processed, this time can be longer than stated on the website.
