Last week, Ali O’Marra-Armstrong posed the question “Where will your story at Rosseau Lake College take you this year?” She wrote about the journey and adventure that each student embarks upon when they join our community.
Three students are already setting a high bar for where their school year will take them; with only 24 hours between returning from outtrip and heading to the airport, Paige ‘25, Mazzy ‘26, and Lydia ‘26, along with faculty member Dan Hedges, travelled last night to Colombia to take part in both a Round Square International Conference (RSIC) in Bogota and a pre-conference tour of the Amazon. Over the next two weeks they will float amongst the biodiversity of the river, hike to waterfalls, engage with local people in the town of Leticia, and meet youth delegates from around the world to exchange ideas and create new friendships.
Round Square is an international network of more than 200 schools based on the educational concepts of Kurt Hahn. Round Square schools share a commitment to character education and experiential learning built around six themes (IDEALS) – International Understanding, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. Rosseau Lake College is proud to be a member of the Round Square international community; over the years our students have travelled to all corners of the globe to attend conferences, participate in community engagement and service projects, and for school exchanges. We have also hosted students on our campus, including current Grade 9 visitor Lala Tanabe from Okinawa, Japan who is staying with Rosie ‘28 and her family.
We look forward to hearing all about this year’s program in Bogota. To learn more about Round Square and what Paige, Mazzy, Lydia, and Mr. Hedges will experience, feel free to visit the conference website at https://www.rsic2024.org/ (password - Colombia2024). We are incredibly proud to have these outstanding young people represent RLC, their families, and their communities on the international stage and can’t wait to learn more about the remarkable start to their 2024-25 RLC story!
